  • How do I start counseling and what will it look like?
    We will have a consultation to determine your specific needs/wants. Then you will either come to the office or we can do telehealth of virtual counseling through the phone or computer. We will decide together what path and method of counseling will work best for you.
  • Why do I need to talk to a professional?
    Our team of mental health professionals is experienced to help you in different and new ways that you may not have tried yet. We will be there to listen to you without judgment so you can move forward in life, find ways to cope better and have more success at school or at work. Counseling with us is confidential so you don’t have to worry about others finding out about your difficulties/concerns/worries.
  • Should I just take medication?
    Research shows that counseling along with medication, if needed, is more effective than medication alone.
  • How long will it take for me to get better?
    You will start feeling better as soon as you make the decision to get help. The total time it takes varies depending on many factors, including, how dedicated you are to making changes in your life, what the underlying concerns are, and how you respond to the counseling.
  • What does a Licensed Educational Psychologist do?
    The Board of Behavioral Science states the following: The practice of educational psychology is the performance of any professional functions pertaining to academic learning processes or the education system or both including diagnosis of psychological disorders related to academic learning processes. An LEP is a school psychologist who has met the criteria and passed a licensing exam from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences to practice privately, outside of the school setting.   • Regarding LEP function, what does it mean to diagnose psychological disorders related to academic learning processes? Does this refer to the use of the DSM-5 to actually diagnose a student?
    Generally it refers to using educational criteria for identifying students with learning and behavioral problems. This means utilizing DSM-5 criteria to diagnose psychological disorders related to academic learning processes.
  • What is the age range that an LEP can work with using this license?
    There is no age range or age limit for LEPs’ clients. Instead, the issue for which the client is seeking services must impact their educational program or work.
